Adventure on the Camino de Santiago: Ham Radio and Nature

The Camino de Santiago with Radio:

In September, I’ll be setting off from Lisbon for a new adventure: walking the Camino de Santiago, covering much of Portugal and northern Spain. I’ve already completed the French route in 2019, but this time I’ll be bringing a radio and an antenna. At each stop, I’ll attempt radio contacts under different conditions.

I’m still deciding on the final setup to bring, but the (tr) uSDX might be the ideal transceiver, and I’ll use one of my End Fed “Travel Clothesline” antennas.

On my YouTube channel, “Onde RAdio in CAmmino,” I’ll periodically post videos of the adventure, divided into two parts: one part will document the journey itself, describing my experiences and documenting the stages, and the other part will be dedicated to radio, attempting QRP contacts and activating SOTA and POTA references encountered along the way.

“Combining my passion for hiking and ham radio, I embark on the Camino de Santiago, bringing along my transceiver and custom-built antenna. Each step and each QSO will be a testament to the harmony between nature and technology. Join me on this unique journey where every trail leads to new connections and every contact tells a story.”

During the journey, I’ll publish the operating frequencies in various ham radio groups. Thanks to my fellow hams, I’ll be spotted on clusters to increase the chances of making contacts with enthusiasts like me. On my Instagram page (currently not very active), I’ll strive to regularly post updates on the stages and radio activities. Additionally, I’ll record the QSOs as a sort of digital diary so that anyone can listen back.

On my blog iu8qtm.eu, I’ll write articles that could be helpful for those who, like me, love nature, hiking, and radio.

This adventure is a great opportunity to explore new operating modes and connect with other radio enthusiasts worldwide. If you’re interested in following my journey and radio activities, I invite you to subscribe to my YouTube channel, follow me on Instagram, and read my blog. I can’t wait to share every moment of this unique experience with you!

Buen Camino and good DX to all! Emilio, IU8QTM
